“Painting is easy when you don’t know how,
but very difficult when you do”

Edgar Degas

Nicholas’ father was a draughtsman and his interest in art began when he would watch him draw. Nicholas excelled and enjoyed art at School and on leaving the sixth form went on to do a foundation art course. Dissuaded by his parents from going on to take a degree in art he worked in magazine publishing and marketing – eventually establishing his own marketing company in London.

However, in order to fulfil his artistic ambitions he sold out of his company and lived cheaply in India and Spain where he taught himself to paint. In 2004 he returned to the UK and settled in Somerset where he further honed his painting abilities. Through a joint exhibition in Cork Street, Mayfair with two fellow Somerset artists he gained London Gallery representation from Quantum Contemporary Art.
